To anyone who is on the fence about visiting a topless-optional resort, I have one piece of advice: Do it.
I am not a nudist. I hesitantly went topless once on a beach in Nice, France, (admittedly after helping finish off two bottles of rose). But I have never had more fun than I did on my most recent visit to Temptation Cancun Resort, a topless-optional resort that is often touted as “The playground for grown-ups.” And I didn’t even take my top off.
Here’s the No. 1 thing I love about resorts like Temptation: the people. Above all, they are simply fun-loving. They know why they’re there. They know what the resort is about. They have nothing to hide. Literally. All they want to do is kick back, laugh, have some drinks, meet new people and forget about everything else. It’s an intoxicating energy. Everyone smiles. Everyone says hello. No one does not want to share their story, or more importantly, listen to yours.
In terms of amenities and services, the hotel is certainly above average. A multimillion-dollar renovation that wrapped in 2017 took it from drab to fab. The resort offers a new, brightly colored, minimalist approach, with massive windows that overlook the Sexy Pool as well as the beach. All rooms have LED TVs, free WiFi, 24-hour room service and a minibar.
A selection of rooms and suites include pool and beach butler service, pillow menu, outdoor whirlpool baths, aromatherapy and Blissful Beds. We stayed in the Tower by Temptation, which has 109 guestrooms and suites and provides a superlative VIP experience, with additional amenities, like a dedicated restaurant and room service included in the room rate.
Of the seven dedicated restaurants, I was partial to the Asian restaurant Sutra, which served one of the better resort teppanyaki experiences I’ve ever had. I also enjoyed the breakfast at Sea Flirt, which is the dedicated restaurant for Tower guests. The enchiladas are really top-notch.
Another aspect that sets Temptation apart is the entertainment. The themed evening parties are incredibly engaging and full of energy. If you’re not into the party scene, there is a rooftop pool area and a quiet pool that offer much tamer vibes.
But what really drove the whole Temptation experience home for me was watching my boyfriend, who is even more antisocial than I am, completely transform into the resort’s social butterfly. Watching him engage with friendly travelers, be the first to say hello and even make friends with a couple from Chicago (we’re visiting them this summer) was enough for me to give this resort experience a perfect score. If your clients would even mildly entertain the idea of visiting Temptation, encourage them to just do it. They will not be sorry.
Rates at the Temptation Cancun Resort start at $194.
