You can book stays in a 720-year-old tower and it’s the stuff of fairytales

A 720-year-old tower has been transformed into a holiday rental, and it offers up a stay that's the stuff of fairytales.

The impressive Lendal Tower in York is steeped in history, having served as a defensive tower for the city in turbulent times including the Siege of York during the English Civil War.

While its riverside view was once a key factor in its defensive role, nowadays it makes for some pretty spectacular views for anyone staying in the Grade I listed tower.

Although it's been renovated to have all the modern comforts you could want, there are heaps of original features that have been kept, including the ornate, original wood panelling.

The decor itself looks like something straight out of a storybook thanks to the stone walls, grandiose bedrooms with four poster beds, freestanding tubs in the bathrooms, and even the coat of arms that can be spotted adorning the walls.

On sunnier days, guests can make use of the enclosed garden or the roof terrace from which you can take in views of York's skyline and the river views.
