“Home Alone” is hitting a major milestone this year and Disney+ is ensuring the film gets the appropriate holiday-themed celebration.
This year marks the famed holiday classic’s 30th anniversary (we know, we feel old too), and to honor this monumental occasion, Disney+ commissioned a gingerbread replica of the McCallister family home, where all the film’s zany antics went down. The gingerbread masterpiece clocks in at an impressive five-and-a-half feet tall and looks remarkably like the Chicago home that was used for the exterior shots of the McCallister residence.
According to the Evening Standard, the home was created by Michelle Wibowo, an award-winning artist and cake designer. In total it took Wibowo more than 300 hours to perfect this holiday masterpiece. “I jumped at the chance because it is one of my favorite Christmas movies – it doesn’t really feel like Christmas in our house until we have seen it at least twice,” Wibowo said in a statement.
Beyond the home itself, the display also features a gingerbread Oh-Kay plumbing van, which fans of the movie will recall was used by the Wet Bandits, Harry and Marv, to haul their stolen goods. It also features a Little Nero’s pizza delivery car, which, come on, you better remember, ya filthy animals.
Within the gingerbread scene, there’s also a cookie replica of Kevin and a replica of Harry and Marv.
The replica, the Evening Standard reported, also includes 63 trees, 33 windows, 14 pizza boxes, and six lampposts. “The scene also includes the infamous paint cans, the broken statue, and the Christmas wreath on their front door,” Wibowo said. “I hope everyone will enjoy spotting iconic details from the movie!’”
The gingerbread house will now go on display at the Oak Centre for Children and Young People at The Royal Marsden in Surrey, England and stay on display for pediatric patients and their families all holiday season long. For those in need of a “Home Alone” screening, the film is now streaming on Disney+.
