Flight attendant says you can get upgrades if you’re behind a reclined seat

A flight attendant has explains there’s one phrase that will get the staff to make other passengers stop reclining.

Plus, it might even bag you an upgrade to business or first class.

The anonymous cabin crew member has worked for airlines for the last 10 years and claims that they’re likely to intervene when passengers are arguing over seats.

They said that airline workers will speak up if someone is reclining their seat during meals as this can interrupt other peoples meals.

However, they noted that holidaymakers do usually have the right to recline a seat.

That is, unless there’s a medical reason why someone needs the extra leg room such as a history of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

DVT is a condition which occurs when a person gets a blood clot in a deep vein – usually in the lower legs, thigh or pelvis.

Actions which help to prevent the formation of such clots include wearing compression socks, moving around when on the plane and stretching your legs out.

If the clot moves then it can cause deadly results such as a pulmonary embolism, reports the NHS.

If you tell the staff you suffer with this health issue they’ll insist the person in front of you puts up their seat.

However, the flight attendant told The Sun: "If it's a big issue, we may even move you to a seat at the front of the row, or maybe even upgrade you, so you have more room to stretch your legs, or so you won't have to deal with a recliner."

So, meals and medical reasons are the only reason why a flight attendant will make the person in front of you stop reclining.

They noted: "Reclining your seat is fair game as far as I'm concerned, even if it is annoying."

Earlier this month, passengers on a flight shared a clip to TikTok after the person in front of them had the “most reclined seat in history”.

In homage to football, the man issued the passenger with a red card. Meanwhile, a woman claimed that she got “revenge” on someone who was reclining on her flight.

She noted: "When you're flying economy, and the person in front of you is very inconsiderate and reclines their chair all the way back…

“You know the air con vents in the top, so you can swivel them around – I swivel it right on their face and put it on full blast."
