Lockdown Brits spent a total of 87 hours talking and daydreaming about holidays last year.
Researchers who polled 2,000 adults found they fantasised about getaways or started a conversation about them 818 times during the last 12 months.
And while 64 per cent simply shared their thoughts with their partner, a third talked about holidays with anyone who would listen.
All manner of holiday-related topics are usually explored – including the weather (49 per cent), what they would eat (24 per cent) and even what they would pack (15 per cent).
It also emerged that while going away on holiday is normally the highlight of the year for 63 per cent of adults, just 26 per cent have their next getaway booked.
A spokesperson for Jet2holidays, which commissioned the research, said: “With many of us stuck at home, we’ve been thinking about holidays more than usual – whether that’s reminiscing about past adventures or thinking about the next one.
“There’s no better feeling than having that all-important holiday booked, as it gives us a real boost and gives us something to look forward to.”
The study also found that in addition to chatting about holidays past, present and future, those polled will also enjoy watching 59 travel TV shows a year.
And they’ll share holiday-related content on social media 27 times during that same period of time, while 15 per cent follow travel bloggers on the likes of Twitter and Instagram.
Aside from getting inspiration from social media and television programmes, 31 per cent get holiday ideas from their friends, while 24 per cent like to scan through travel guides.
Further to this, 51 per cent love planning getaways so much it’s one of the aspects of holidays they enjoy the most.
The Jet2holidays study carried out through OnePoll also found 70 per cent ‘live’ for going on holiday.
But the average adult last went away for a ‘proper’ getaway 12 months ago – and ordinarily they would go on two holidays during a typical year.
Therefore, perhaps it’s no surprise 67 per cent said they need a getaway now more than ever before.
The Jet2holidays spokesperson added: “Of course, this past year has been incredibly unusual.
“It’s completely understandable that such a high number of us are desperate to get away and are spending more time than ever thinking and talking about holidays.
“The research is backed up by the demand we are seeing, with customers acting to get their all-important holidays booked in for this summer and giving themselves something to look forward to.”
