Royal: The adorable tradition Kate Middleton maintains when travelling with her children

The Duchess of Cambridge is no stranger to travel, frequently sent on royal trips both on her own and alongside her husband Prince William. The couple, who are lovers of culture and exploration, also often take their children with them on their travels, and there is one tradition the mother-of-three always maintains.

It is well reported that Kate is a photography lover, having snapped numerous photographs over the years which have been shared on the Kensington Royal Instagram, and with the media.

These include some of the first snaps of Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, five, and Prince Louis, two, when they were born, as well as milestone moments including birthdays and first days at school.

More recently, the Duchess worked in partnership with London’s National Portrait Gallery to encourage people to snap portraits during the coronavirus pandemic and share them as part of “The Hold Still project.”

It seems the Duchess never goes far without a camera in hand to capture memorable occasions.

This is why, according to royal author Marcia Moody, Kate always packs a camera with her when jetting off on her travels.

In her 2013 book Kate: A Biography, Ms Moody said the stylish royal often carries her beloved Canon camera.

Writing about Kate’s first-ever royal tour with William, to Canada in June 2011, Moody wrote in her book: “Since she has always been a keen photographer, she took her own Canon camera to snap some personal images.”

Given that she has snapped so many special photographs of her trio of youngsters, it is likely she has recorded plenty of family holidays over the years.

Some of the Duchess’ most recent photographs include a special birthday photo of princess Charlotte delivering food to their neighbours in Norfolk.

She also posted a photo of Prince Louis making a rainbow-coloured painting to show support for NHS workers.

Hello! magazines reports that she and the children have even collated family snaps together into a scrapbook and gifted it to Prince William in recent years.

In 2019 Kate took over from the Queen as Patron of The Royal Photographic Society.

Kensington Palace said in a statement: “The Duchess has a longstanding interest in photography, and this patronage will further highlight the beneficial impact that art and creativity can have on emotional wellbeing, particularly for children and young people.”

However, along with her beloved camera, there are some other items the Duchess always takes with her when travelling.

According to Ms Moody, Kate also has four must-have items to slip into her handbag.

The author detailed: “In her small clutch she carries a compact mirror, blotting paper, a handkerchief and lip balm.”

She also has a special way of making sure she always knows which item of luggage is hers.

Kate always has a yellow luggage tag on her suitcases and bags.

It is inscribed with the words “HRH The Duchess of Cambridge.”

The Queen similarly uses a yellow luggage tag, simply reading “The Queen.”

Prince William, on the other hand, used a red luggage tag.
