Budget airline Wizz Air revealed six hacks to get cheap flights and upgrades when going on holidays.

Switching up currencies

Britons may be able to save money booking the flights in the currency of the destination rather than the one at home.

That, of course, depends on the ‘strength’ of the currencies at the time of booking.

The trick is to open two tabs online, one with the location of the destination and another with the travellers’ current location.

Comparing prices and the two currencies can help people save a substantial amount of money.

Flying with flexibility

It is well known that flying at peak times, including the summer season or weekends, is more expensive.

Those who have the flexibility to choose less popular dates could be saving their money.

This will be not only the day of the week but also the time of the day.

Night flights are often cheaper than during the day and changing airports or taking connecting flights can reduce the price of the trip.

A one – way ticket

Making two separate bookings instead of one return trip can save travellers some money.

Although it is worth comparing both options, as it is not the case every time, two bookings often translate into the best deal.

Plan ahead

Flights tend to increase in price the closer it gets to the departure date, especially if they are receiving a lot of bookings.

WizzAir recommends: “Booking up to eight weeks in advance is most likely to be the cheapest time to book.”

Like, comment and subscribe

When travellers follow an airline on social media or are subscribed to their newsletters, they are often the first to hear about new deals and offers.

Many airlines also reward their followers by offering them exclusive deals, giving them early access to sales and personalised discount codes.

Cheap holiday expert Chelsea Travel said on her blog: “Is it just me or is there no better feeling than turning up to a hotel and finding out you’ve been given a free upgrade?!

“Well, what if I was to tell you that you can greatly increase your chances of getting upgraded by doing one simple thing?! Just ask for one.”

Chelsea also recommended “tagging the hotel on social media”.

“Influencer or not, showing your excitement by tagging in the hotel in a post or Instagram story on the day before shows them how excited you are and also hints that you’ll be posting about your stay when you arrive too!” she said.
