Better known for its esteemed architecture, UNESCO world heritage site status and once-famed wellness retreat reputation, this British city seems to have undergone a drastic U-turn.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Official government statistics suggest that, while it is still a beautiful place, you might want to bring your own food.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The city in question is Bath, home of the Roman Baths, the famous Royal Crescent and plenty of other stunning Georgian architecture.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But the Food Standards Agency (FSA) is not as impressed – it ranked Bath as the number one most unhygienic night out.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The FSA said 36 per cent of Bath\u2019s late night entertainment venues were in the 0 to 3 range of ratings out of 5.\u00a0<\/p>\n

More info<\/p>\n The government department has 6 rankings for its assessment of food venues. They range from 5, where \u201chygiene standards are very good\u201d to 0, where \u201curgent improvement is required\u201d. 1 means \u201cmajor improvement is necessary\u201d and 2 signals \u201csome improvement is necessary\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n The FSA says the ratings are \u201ca snapshot of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of inspection\u201d and that \u201cit is the responsibility of the business to comply with food hygiene law at all times\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n The ratings are based on five key measures:\u00a0<\/p>\n handling of food<\/p>\n<\/li>\n how food is stored<\/p>\n<\/li>\n how food is prepared<\/p>\n<\/li>\n cleanliness of facilities<\/p>\n<\/li>\n how food safety is managed<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n When conducting an inspection, the food safety officer will be keeping a watchful eye out for violations of how hygienically the food is directly \u201cprepared, cooked, reheated, cooled and stored\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n Also on their list is the physical state of the establishment. They\u2019ll check the cleanliness, lighting, ventilation and pest control, among other things.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The assessor will then calculate the likelihood of the business improving (or remaining high) in the future based on the training and processes being put in place.<\/p>\n
