November is a time when many people wish to stay cosy indoors, but now is actually the perfect time to visit for of Britain’s most beautiful places as there will be hardly any tourists around as you explore.

One truly unique place to consider visiting is the picturesque town of Wotton-under-Edge, located in the south Cotswolds in Gloucestershire, England.

Wotton-under-Edge has been named one of the “prettiest” local places according to the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard newspaper, as the area is known for its incredible timber-framed Tudor homes as well as many other medieval buildings scattered around the town, showing the town’s rich history and charming atmosphere.

The main street located in the heart of Wotton-under-Edge has been nicknamed the ‘department store’ as there is a huge variety of shops to discover as well as places to eat.

However, one of the strangest and most unique buildings in the town is the Round House, which is a large well-preserved circular house believed to date back to the 1800s. Covered in ivy, it looks like a castle in a fairytale and has become a landmark in the area.

Another place worth visiting overlooks the town on top of a hill and is the Tyndale Monument. This historic tower was erected to remember William Tyndale, who is famous for his translation of the English bible and helped the New Testament be published which allowed ordinary people to read the religious test for the first time.

It takes 120 steps to reach this historic monument but travelers who make the journey can be rewarded with an incredible view of Berkeley Vale and the river Severn, making it the perfect autumn walk to take for anyone wishing to explore nature.

The town is one of the stops of the Cotswold Way, a long-distance footpath through the Cotswold but there are many scenic autumn walks to take around the town as it is surrounded by hills and lush countryside.

Wotton-under-Edge is steeped in history with close links to the nearby Berkeley Castle, which dates back to the 11th century and is famous for being the place where King Edward II was murdered and is known to have hosted many famous Tudor royals who have stayed there, such as King Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and her daughter Queen Elizabeth I.

St Mary’s Church is another historic gem in the town known for its beautiful interior, and is thought to be one of the oldest churches in the area but is best known for its massive historic organ which was gifted to the church by King George I.
