Flight attendant Esther, who works for Dutch airline KLM, shared in her TikTok channel @esthersturrus a clever hotel hack to safely check if someone is hiding under the bed.

Most European countries are safe but holidaymakers are often targeted by thieves and in some hotels, intruders could easily sneak into the rooms, especially if they are located on the first floor.

Many travellers fear the intruder could be hiding somewhere in the room, and checking under the bed is the first thing a lot of people do as soon as they check in.

One of the flight attendant’s top hacks to stay safe in the hotel room is to always “check that no one is under the bed without looking”.

To do so, travellers can “throw a bottle under the bed” and it “has to come out on the other side”. If it doesn’t come out, someone may be hiding under the bed.

TikTok users were amazed by the clever hack and took to the comments section to share their thoughts.

Susi Dorigoni commented the bottle method was “super useful,” and another said: “I’m dying about that bottle of water under the bed!”

American flight attendant Kat Kamali also recommended holidaymakers always “check if there’s anyone in your room”.

She advised to never say the “room number out loud,” and check “behind the curtains and under the bed” as soon as you’re checked in.

But has anyone ever found an intruder in a hotel room? According to flight attendant Nassim, it has happened before, and it is more common than people think.

Nassim exclusively told Express.co.uk: “When I started flying I heard of a story where a crew member had gone into their hotel room and not checked it out properly and someone had hidden in the room.

“They got attacked so every time I got to a hotel room I would use my luggage case to keep the hotel door open. I then go inside and check everywhere.

“I would check the bathroom, under the bed, inside the wardrobes, under the table and behind the curtains to make sure that no one was in there. I would never ever enter a room without doing that.”
