Is there anything more festive than a mulled wine at a Christmas market under the stars? Luckily, the team at Post Office Travel Money have rounded up this year’s best value options.
Topping the list, as this year’s best-value Christmas market break was Riga, the capital city of Latvia. Riga’s largest Christmas market is usually held in the city’s pretty Dome Square.
According to Post Office Travel Money research, a two-night break in Riga for two people with return flights, accommodation, festive snacks and two evening meals costs £506.
The city topped the ranking due to affordable accommodation and flights as it wasn’t the cheapest for food or drink.
Surprisingly, one of Europe’s more expensive cities, Stockholm, was rated second cheapest at £559.50. Although meals and drinks were still expensive in the Swedish capital, flights were very affordable for Brits.

Zagreb was another great value option for Brits looking for a Christmas market bargain. The city’s market will open on December 2 and run until January 7.
Prague and Tallinn also made the top five while Vienna was the most expensive choice at £932 for a two-day break.
Copenhagen also came in at over £900, although the city is still one of Europe’s prettiest for a winter break.
Laura Plunkett, head of Travel Money at the Post Office said: “This year’s Christmas Markets Barometer provides the best possible evidence that it will always pay dividends to factor in all holiday costs before booking a trip abroad.
“As the research shows, a scarcity of pre-Christmas flights has resulted in higher travel costs to Krakow, usually one of the best value cities in our pricing surveys, while good flight availability has reduced the cost of city breaks to Riga and Stockholm.
“However, low meal and drinks costs can also have a big impact on the overall price of a short break, and this explains why Zagreb, Prague and Budapest are cities to consider for holidaymakers planning a Christmas market break.”
